So a few things. He asked her to return to the palace not to that pos. While SimpinSlut is correct that also poses the problem of she would only have allies that have no power or abilities and therefore no real use. I think the biggest thing to take from this chapter is she was once a timid young lady who has now grown (on her own) to be confident enough to say no to the emperor despite feeling like she owes him a debt.

Why can’t women in these comics build themselves up without a man helping them. Not every FL should coincidentally have a rich hot noble in their back pocket. Why can’t romance happen after she accomplishes a way to succeed and heal from a breakup? I think an ML would be impressed if a FL got away from a bad relationship or family completely on her own.
Gramps there, maybe should switch successors, but even if that happens she’ll have to give up running her shop. I hate these comics because FL is always supported by the ML in some way during the divorce and while establishing a business based on a passionate hobby. Then, after he manipulates her or makes her feel like she has no other option but to marry him, he swoops her away to live like a caged canary again. The authors try to make it seem they can balance both roles, but it’s not possible. Like in Dr. Elise, the empress being a surgeon is going to be limited. If she only operates on nobles it’s unfair, if she operates on the poor she could get assasinated.
