God, those lapels. The *points* on those lapels.
For those of you who don’t know, that wrap around Camilla’s neck is called a cravat–and it’s not just a fancy bow tie.
Though they were used for fashion as well, the cravat is a safety feature of European equestrian gear. They are properly quite thick and stiff, and tied high and snuggly around the neck (higher than Camilla’s). This isn’t particularly comfortable–this was/is to brace the neck in horseback riding accidents, hopefully reducing damage in the same way a helmet or a seatbelt would.
In a pinch, cravats are used as bandages and braces in first aid, and a quick fix if straps or buckles break on tack.
Everybody who’s riding in this hunt should be wearing a cravat. “I am most *seriously* displeased.”
