I don’t know why they made this different from the novel, but at this point in the novel Noah and Ravien had been ex-fiancées for quite awhile. Ravien had clung onto her past relationship with Noah because she thought that only he had the looks to match her, but on Noah’s side he had disliked her for abandoning him to make herself look better in front of the temple.
