@Freya.e – I’ve been to tapas before, I tried to read on it – Their monetization is horrid. They gamified the site to encourage you to keep reading, and only release a few chapters for free at a time. Even when I tried out some of their translations, the translations, while better english than AI, were NOT better quality at all. When comparing translation groups and Tapas, it was comparable if not slightly worse at times. I noticed typos and straight up incorrect translations that left out important information.
An example I can give is “I’m not the final boss’ lover!” – I actually preferred the independent translation groups over Tapas’ version, because their translation completely altered the story/vibe from chapter 1. The conversation between her and her old abusive crush is supposed to illustrate how manioulative he was to her, and tapas completely changed their dynamic/conversation in a way that didn’t match any of the free translations.
So, yeah, I’m right there with you. Zero incentive to pay for that and it’s ridiculous how horrid the translation scene is in the west these days. There’s very little quality control, even when you try to pay for ‘official’ outlets like Tapas
Don’t even get me started on anime localizations/translations and how ‘woke’ and biased they are anymore. When I can’t watch anime without forced feminazi propaganda being fed to crunchyroll like it’s in any way accurate or cute, it becomes morally correct to pirate. lol.
