I won’t exactly say that he abandoned her because he didn’t have a choice in the matter, he was just a child just like her. It must have hurt him more than her knowing that he couldn’t talk to her. 8 years have passed and she has grown up, her taste in men and other things are bound to have changed. He can’t just waltz in like a frigging storm and expect her to fall back in love with him after not hearing him for years. He needs closure, therapy and needs to come to the fact that she isn’t into him anymore.
