I think in this case her ex-husband is probably to type who treats everyone poorly and only pretended to be nice so he could marry her for her family’s wealth. Being a trashy husband is just his natural state.

I always wonder why the husband (it’s normally him) goes from loving to fk off after they get married. A few times it’s been explained like “he wasn’t allowed to marry who he actually loved” but that doesn’t seem to be the case this time

The mil wouldn’t be the Duchess, unless she married her own son. Since her husband has passed her title would be Dowager Duchess. The fl would be the Duchess, until she divorced.
