What she means by telling him to just be himself is that he doesn’t have to try hard to impress her so she’ll stay, she just wants him to be a normal boy. I don’t think shed spoil hime (much lol) and I don’t think shed put up with rude or unacceptable behavior, but all kids act out, all kids push boundaries, that’s how they learn and she’s telling him that she’ll love him no matter what.

I’m guessing what she meant with what she said to the kid was that he doesn’t have to be afraid that he will lose her love if he makes mistakes. Learning how to deal with and fix mistakes is important, instead of expecting no mistakes will ever happen.
