   Remember when Lyla recall her memories when Enya kill the leader & colleagues, I don’t think Lyla being brainwash. Same goes to Hashan, the fact they even wrote her story (Wilderness)

   So my guess is – her mentor was conspiring regarding creating a war, or used the mind magic to control others that’s why she had to kill them all because of the brainwashing. And the kids were less exposed to the magic so they weren’t corrupted yet.
   And she feels hurrible for killing her loved ones so she never explained what happened.
