I feel like the commenters are short sighted… Every situation he has put her in is a trial, yes, but for her betterment. He asked her those questions at the table because he knew she had a knowledgable opinion. She couldn’t know all the bad gossip about the prince, so that tripped her up. It led to a misunderstanding that they are mocking her because she readily falls into because of low self esteem.
