Wait What
Rash_mir, It’s not a great representation, no. But writing with a fountain pen or feather quill is more like just barely gliding over the surface than the scratching you hear from a quill makes it sound. That sound would have come from the roughness of the paper more than the quill scratching it. The absorbency of the paper pulls ink down from the quill by surface tension, I believe–the sharp point is for minimizing that contact point to make a clean line. Also between the common use of paper in Europe and the invention of hollanders, rag paper was considerably stronger–the cotton and linen fibers they got from pulverizing rags were much longer until they switched to a cutting technique.
TLDNR? Using a feather quill so hard you tear the paper will make it impossible to *move the quill fast enough to write with it*, defeating the purpose of the exercise.
Rash_mir
My worry is isn’t the quill very sharp to write on a paper. It will tear.?
