It seems you missed the bigger picture, let this fourth-wall hyung explain it to you, these two definately grew up to have a connection in their past life (as seen in chapter one where the girl embraced the MC as he was dieing as if she cared instead of leaving him to die.) He probably felt remorseful that he couldn’t be kinder to her and in the process, must have fallen in love
