I don’t get why people in the comments are mad at the duke over this. Yeah, he’s been a jerk in the past, but not this time. Like, why would he want the woman he wants for himself to marry someone else? No one would be okay with that—let’s be real. He’s not doing anything wrong; he’s just watching things play out. And honestly, I don’t think there’s much he can do. I doubt Layla would agree to marry Kyle after his mom pulled such an extreme move to tear them apart. She’s too proud for that, and let’s be honest—she doesn’t even love Kyle in that way.
I’ve finished the novel, and I can’t bring myself to hate him. His love for Layla wasn’t ordinary; it was obsession—dangerous, consuming, and absolute. In the end, he made sure that anyone who dared to hurt Layla or their children would taste his wrath.
Unfortunately, sometimes people fall in love with toxic person. I like dark romances, but Leila seems to have a bit of a masochistic streak in this novel. I like all the characters in the novel because they act according to their nature, even Mathias. except for Leila, who I can’t understand at all
