   She was “the rose of Arvis” that attracted Matthias’s attention with her pure beauty. But as all roses, she had her own “thorns”. She was wrapped by those thorns i.e past traumas.

   “Only you know my heart, my true self”

   Only person who could able to see Layla’s “true nature” with her dark sides and “inner feelings” was Matthias. And as her “dark sides” didn’t discourage Matthias, she could show him her “true self”. Matthias accepted her WHOLE, with her “insulting past”. She was haggard by negative emotions, and the duke also accepted those emotions despite them being directed at him.

   I can say same for Matthias, he showed his “dark sides” and his “true self” only to Layla. I love this quote form the book “Haunting Adeline”, it says:

   “When you make someone fall in love with darkest parts of you, there’s nothing you can do that will scare them away. They will be yours forever because they already love all the f*cked up bits and pieces of you”.

   It’s not same but quite similar to Matthias’s character. He was himself with Layla, not the perfect nobleman nor the powerful duke of Arvis. When he was with Layla he wanted just to be boyfriend->lover->partner.

   Both of them showed each other their darkest sides they were for each other “comfort zone” and this made their love stronger.

   About his love yes, it seems me his love starts from desire->obsession->obsessive love->absolute love.

   I would rather say “Absolute Love” instead of “Pure Love” because absolute love not dependents on any temporary conditions and never-ending desire to give, after all, itself – overtly and totally. Which did Matthias at the end of the story. His love was absolute, Layla’s sake was above himself, when he decided to marry her against his family, status and obligations. In our world unfortunately every relationship based “pull and push” theory. And this kind of love really rare among “lovers and spouses” Though, scientists said: mother’s love always absolute. Our mothers love us, without expecting anything in return and us whole with wounds and thorns. And I’m totally AGREE!

   @Comingforwardtruth did kyle assault layla by kissing her? does he stalk her? did he threaten/coerce her to have sex with him? did he take her virginity on a floor and make her feel ashamed and disgusted? did he rape her? did layla see him as a devil? did he threaten to kill her unborn child because she paid more attention to it than him? no. so then how on gods green earth can you come to the conclusion that kyle is worse than that rapist abuser matthias because matthias never his his true colors? you lack the skills and mindset to even be arguing with people criticizing this story if you think kyle is worse than matthias. constantly brushing off criticism with “it’s just fiction” kills any conversation about how media can shape our thinking. if certain dark tropes like these keep getting framed as romantic or okay by majority of fans (and even the own novel author), people can start seeing that stuff as normal, especially younger or impressionable audiences.

   after reading the novel, nobody will ever convince me this is a “love story” or even romance. i genuinely hate all matthias fans and even the ones who claim they aren’t fans but “can’t fully hate him because he’s attractive”. it’s so saddening how layla went through all of that abuse and suffering and misfortune just to turn around and say she loved matthias the entire time. it’s disgusting how even when matthias sexually assaults her, afterwards, she’s more upset about the fact her first kiss went like that and not that she was literally assaulted. it’s like the violence, abuse, and assault she faced from matthias is all excused in the end because she suddenly loves him, and she’s always loved him, and things were always going to be like this. this whole story is romanticization of it’s dark themes and heavy topics, and some fans just can’t seem to acknowledgment that. everything is so downplayed for the sake of forced romance.

   i know that this will probably not happen, but i hope the artist changes the story from the novel. i’d hate to still see layla end up with her rapist again.

   I don’t have a problem with problematic characters and dark themes, however it is a problem if you are going to romanticize SA and abuse. There are ways to write about these, and this is not it.

    I hate people that gets so invested on the series and star cancelling them. Unless there is pedos or animal cruelty or SA,why? With stories like this people get upset? Yes the duke is cruel but leyla accepted him, she was not taken by force or surprise, she agreed to it. Kyle is a crying bitch, it’s not unfair what happen to him, he’s as crazy as the duke and as pathetic. Yes, Claudine is been cheated on but she is also an aristocrat who treats people like trash. And yes even in real life, there are couple which WORSE background and are happily married and with kids, so could you all please lack some slack and let people enjoy the romance, the drama, the high emotions portrayed in a NOVEL! It’s a novel, it’s not even real, and if you don’t have the stomach then don’t read it, but stop coming for people for their work, just because you are softies 💆🏽‍♀️ Kyle literally emotionally manipulated leyla to be with him EVEN when she stated from the start she only saw him as a friend. He comes to her house whenever he wants any pester her until she accepts his feelings, nobody in this novel cares about how leyla feels, his uncle wants her to be perfect, Kyle and Matthias want her to be theirs, Claudine, Elysee and Norma want her to stay poor and quiet, Kyle is so obsessed with her that even if she asks him to leave and never comeback he doesn’t respect her boundaries because all he is thinking is: SHE MUST BE MINE. The duke at least always showed himself as the scum bag he is. Kyle is worse because he plays the innocent and sweet guy (which actually corner her with: marry me or loose me) (and the duke is be mine or dye 🤣) but it is all a story. Which is also a critic to the aristocracy (that still lives) at how women live in a man’s world were they are dictated by their whims, and that is what art is for, to reflect and critic on life and society and all you fuckers whining because you can’t stomach the story is just lame.

    BTW if you are gonna read this just know the story will romanticize SA and abuse, they aged up the FL as in the novel she was a child while the ML was near his early 30s. The novel repeatedly emphasized the FL was a child and makes it where she loves the ML because he SAed her. I dropped this after learning the contents of the novel, if they do somehow change it that would be better but I’m not surprised if they dont.
