I think the point is not so much “bringing him in at the right time” as “not getting him involved at all unless my buddy the Crown Prince dies”.

Ikr! I don’t think the current one is really corrupt or anything. And I don’t think that boy has a particular interest to risk his life for power and money. A real friend would ask for their opinion, or help send him off to a foreign country so he could live peacefully and not get involved.
