@Melbelwel yes, they have been dropping hints about it, but saying it out right now. The pearl necklace “belonged to Carlos” but then now “should be hers”, and that Carlos has been ensnaring “them” to enhance his powers. “Them” referring to Southern Saints.
It appears as though the saint system is something that does not need a direct hereditary line and does require being a specific role. Carlos broke the terms that make him the Southern Saint. So however the Southern Saint is created occurs regardless of Carlos being alive.
Remember how they lured Carlos out of the palace? Lou lied by saying “They found a Southern Saint”. He left to try and capture them. Likely Lou did not blossom into her role before being bound by a less significant curse than what Carlos used on other saints, and thus he missed her.
