Exchanging currency even for diplomats is normal. The whole getting jobs thing could be mistranslation. The emperor walking around in the open could be explained by 1 everyone might not know his face. 2 even if they know his face, the people might not realize it’s him or realize that he would be walking around amongst them. For example if you see someone famous walking by you, are you going to be sure it’s actually them? And none of these would be plot holes, because they don’t actually effect the plot, their just details that aren’t overly important.
This plot doesn’t make sense. Why do they have to find work and exchange currency as diplomats?? Also how is the emperor just walking around town and no one bats an eye? I’m asking because it isn’t stated that he used any disguise type magic. Also why didn’t she acknowledge and greet the emperor at the newspaper stall?? I understand that she might feel like they are on casual terms after what happened between them but she’s still in public and still a diplomat sent by another empire??? So many plot holes…
