my analysis on Filen’s psychology from the novel and manhwa I’ve read so far but I might be wrong, Firstly I felt bad for him at some point, he was just traumatized like the fl without having any idea
he was born a dim wit and had difficulties sorting out his emotions towards the fl, it’s not that he didn’t love her, but she triggers his trauma and him not knowing how to deal with it he became aggressive. Growing up the fl always receives the love, care and attention from his parents praising her for her quick wits, which makes him feel pressured and compared, and that kills the little interest he had for the household management knowing that the fl will always outshine him, he perceives his parents effort on trying to make him a better heir as a reminder that he will always walk on the fl’s shadow and that he will never get his parents approval, all the effort spend on the fl makes him feel neglected, replace and unloved as he was pushed to do better like the fl which was out of his leuge so he cope his pain away with swordsmanship as it was the only thing he was good at and also swinging swords was the only thin thread that keeps him going, and the people at the dutchy choosing the fl over him who is the sole heir is a cold reminder that he is incompetent and that he will never be enough as ruler without the fl, which hamper his pride, meeting Leila was a morale booster for him as she was the only one who doesn’t hamper his pride (tho she manipulate him like no one does, bro struggle with addition, don’t expect him to put 2 & 2 together blame the author not him) being with her makes him feel worthy and superior and with her carrying his child, everything was perfect for him which shows how much he longs for a family, she was like a beautiful dream, or eutopia but he never plans to keep her coz dreams are never long and he understand that he was good to her because she makes him feel strong and reliable, and also it was his way of getting into Leila as his trauma of constantly being inferior to her makes him hold grudge against her and wanting to overpower her, it’s not because he hates her, he just wants to let out his years of pent up frustration and he desperately wanted the fl to need him, he wants to her be jealous of him like he always did with her he wants to be heard off, wants to be accepted as the Duke he is without comparison he wants to be as respected as her but bro did it the wrong way and choose the wrong path, also his pain roots too deep within him to the point that he cannot see all the mental struggle and physical hardships the fl went through. Also he really love the Fl, that is why he always forgives her even though he was sure (thought🤣) she was wrong, she seem so perfect to him and that perfection was the reason for everyone to see him in a different light so it triggers his insecurity, even though he trampled on her to boost his ego when he think she makes mistake, he always brush it off quickly as seeing her mistakes makes him feel a more and more comparable. He never plans to leave her he just wants her to struggle like he did and he hurt her thinking that him acting out would show every that he is superior then her, like even the Emperor words don’t mean a thing to him when it comes to Leila showing how much she means to him bro is not that heartless he is just twisted in the head not that I debunked his wrongdoings (inferiority complex, PTSD, Anxiety, negative thought pattern, too focus on social comparison, Anger issues and shit tonn of Jealousy)
Bro who’s mind is running a marathon didn’t understand that she was also doing a mental gymnastics
