Actually, it might work–not because society at large cares at all about beastkin (it doesn’t), but because 1) the only remaining candidate for DUKE is half-cat and the lilies always made him feel sick, and 2) the duchess is allegedly allergic to pollen *and* pregnant with a 1/4-cat fetus.
A sensible grandma would freak. A *caring* grandma might commit battery.
I’m not saying Ren’s comment isn’t silly, I’m saying that Lady Elbas wouldn’t have brought Grandma Elbas along if Grandma didn’t have clout–and according to Dimitri, Grandma is his biggest support as Duke. I have a feeling Lady Elbas’ ploy to use Grandma to pressure Lewain and Dimitri is about to backfire spectacularly.
Also please, please PLEASE let her be a closet cat lady who just hasn’t had any education in how to communicate in feline.

Beastkin are viewed as lesser beings, like an actual cat or dog. Saying lilies hurt them won’t matter. At worst it’s vicious, not murder. This mother in law is using the fact that her preferences & authority should matter more than a “a mere beasts” health. This is painfully obvious in the story, getting upset the FL isn’t speaking out more is silly.
