Well, I guess the mother was not politically aligned and let it slip in the wrong company. I wish people would stop projecting their parents issues onto the characters 😅. Like I said before in the start of the series. You don’t know the circumstances of this father. Well, now you do. He is trying to protect his daughter no matter what. He doesn’t want what happened to his wife to happen to his daughter. If there is anyone who is bad here it is the emperor. He is leveraging the Duke’s love for his daughter and using him like a pawn to meet his own ends.
