Tbh I’m not sure what Diana was thinking with this nonsense. The emperor is sick and his heir still untested. On top of that the only prince married a commoner with strong connections to the temple and no other support. The least thing they need is to give impression that they are weak and under the thumb of the temple.
If other countries have resentment towards them (and in this chapter we see that they have) this would be like waving a red flag at them to stir up trouble. After all, weak rulers are something that can easily be taken advantage off.
