It’s similar to the way of the Koreans when a female is calling a male “oppa”, whether they are blood related or not and/or if they are romantically interested or not. It’s like addressing them as “ma’am/miss/sir/mister”, but the characters are young kids so it’ll be weird for a teenager calling another teenager of the same age “ma’am/miss/sir/mister”. Hopefully that made sense.
In some cultures, it’s okay to be romantically involved within cousins.. But as long as they’re not from the paternal sides.
I don’t agree with it, but YOU DO YOU. I’m not trying to offend anyone. Just trying to explain.

Actually Even I don’t know . Maybe Miss – Translation but I’ve seen many times in Chinese Manhua’s the friends calling each other as brother – sister. I think it’s probably translation problem maybe , I think it’s more like Friends but again , I could be wrong .

i dont mind romance in stories, but aren’t they suppose to be cousin or is just miss-translation ? lol
