As a Korean person, I don’t have enough faith in Korean author writing albinism. This isn’t the first story with a pale FL from somewhere tropical and warm. Seems like every other story. So unless they outright state it’s albinism, I’m going with colorism.

😑 I think the people below missed a BIG fact as to why she is so pale. Let me just point the elephant in the room. Her father is tan with brown hair and eyes and MC is pale with white hair and red pink eyes… 😐 This is not whitewashing this is albinism.
It is still not the best as albinism in real life comes with a lot of health issues other than just appearance but definitely not whitewashing 🤷♀️

Also look at their clothes. If it was a cool or slightly warm spring they were talking about they would be wearing more clothes than that. Obviously the author or artist wants u to think this is a hot island like the islands and tribes typically seen wearing these clothes in real life

@dutenplm ur right it doesn’t necessarily say hot tropical whether all year round. However it does say spring all year round and gives us an image of an island with a blazing sun and palm trees and a beach. Even taking the tropical part away cos that’s not important not even it being an island is important. A perpetual warm spring, meaning probably no snow or really cold winters and an even hotter summer. Always being exposed to the sun would increase levels of melanin in order to protect themselves from the sun and these guys have lived many generations there so in the mildest case they would still be tan, medium case they’d be Polynesian-esque (by that I mean similar in skin tone and they might share some physical features, in the strongest case they would be basically black people

I’m glad others are talking about the skin tone cos once they said island I was confused but not at the same time cos of course they’re just gonna make her pale skinned. They want the island but not the island ppl. That’s also y I hate it when the northern dukes are tan af but the fragile southern princess is as pale as a piece of paper. Like just say u attach ruggedness and fierceness to skin tones and keep it stepping. They wanna make books and fantasy and make it historically factual (sometimes) but never think about how regions and climate actually effect physical appearance.
