This issue is not how historically it is viewed. The Female lead and the Author should know better being from **modern time**. But the FL looks down on the woman for being a drain on her family even while she was reading the book.
“tsk tsk Because of his daughter his family is on the verge of ruin.” – Female Lead
made me cringe. The FL is ableist and this time period does not excuse it.

@Sassyjones27, it’s obviously a medieval setting. That’s what they did. Mental handicaps were signs of the devil, or just being dumb.

I hate to break it to you but that historically was the take on people who were delayed. Even 5 of Queen Elizabeth’s cousins/second cousins were committed to an asylum to live out their lives because they were considered shameful, some even reported as dead to the public.
