That said, we still don’t know the full backstory for his motives back in Korea. Remember, he was told he’d be able to return, but he was lied to. Could have been why he didn’t take her seriously. That, or it’s something different. He did always try to keep her by his side (yes, in a weird way). Maybe he was afraid of losing her, or thought that the saintess girl was after her life or something. It has yet to be explained.
Point is, let the author cook guys. Y’all comin’ down too hard on ya boy. Falling for the bait to hate him the way the FMC currently (somewhat) does.
