In some legends birthing a baby dragon is very taxing so similer to how female emperor penguins have to leave to eat and recover from laying the egg while the male takes care of it untill it hatches and then a bit longer after that, the male dragon rears the young for the first couple hundred years then the female after recovering her strength comes to help.
In other legends female western dragons are very rare and there would not be enough genetic diversity if they only reproduced with one male each. In these legends when asked by a male dragon they may choose to have his child then leave it with him. Sometimes they will also have a mate they live with who they have most of their children with but in others they just help create new dragon eggs when they feel like it but don’t partner with anyone.

Where is the mother of these dragons? Honestly wth is going on with this story? Is the Author saying dragons don’t need partners to give birth?
