Honestly, the duke is like an open book instead of being crafty like politicians.
The outcome of his punishment would probably be more impactful if both main leads passed through the main hall where all the people gathered. But well, it might tarnish the FL’s reputation a bit since she’s a marchioness, but what could be more terrifying than physical evidence that she has been abused by the duke? Even her face is distorted from the slap.. 😔

I’m guessing that Elisha (or the duke for her) is/was stealing FL’s powers somehow. That’s why she was “going to die” and why she seems to have powers that she didn’t ognovel.
It also seems we’re going for the “the novel was just the ogFL’s perspective and was not the full story” trope.
I’m also guessing that the baby is either their kid from the future or is a god/fairy/mythic-something-or-other sent to watch over FL or something. 😅
