Same thing kind of happened to me with horses. I used to ride them every year at a summer camp, then at around the same age I saw a girl who was younger than me fall off and almost get trampled. She ended up fine, but I was terrified of galloping (the best part) after that, then stopped going after that year. I tried again when I was about 14 when my dad’s ex let my babysitter ride one of her rescue horses. I guess that horse had enough for the day and flopped down with me on him still almost crushed me.
She had another super sassy horse that wasn’t rideable that I would give apples to. One day she came right up to my face and almost broke my foot, but I slipped my foot out of the shoe in time. I was so surprised I dropped the apple and she just stood there, standing on my shoe not budging. I had to sit on the gate forever until she went to get the apple before the others got to it.
