If the sister is destined to break his heart and chooses the other man, why would you encourage that? If instead of dying and traumatizing him, you become his best friend, and treat him like your husband, how could he not fall madly in love?
Also gender bias is real, because this would be hella creepy if it was an older man instead who essentially wants to groom the child, talk about how sexy she will become and immediately ask to share a bed.
