her memories are messed up. the real heir is the sister who was humoring her until she recovered her memories. that’s why granpa was marrying her off to a higher title noble (marquis, duke), that was an indication she was NEVER meant to be the heir, since she wouldn’t inherit the title.
Due to Grandfather’s neglecnince, both girls became mentally vulnerable to that marquis who was working as a pawn to the crown prince. Laurencia isn’t actually talented, her ‘talent’ right now is just knowing the future, but she lost the family wealth on her own. She’s hardworking and now has knowledge, instead of being a genius.
She didn’t return to take revenge, she was returned to atone and save the family who protected her. If you notice, despite her bitterness, Erzia is aghast to the idea of her sister dying. She never killed her in the previous life, she simply took what was hers but she had hated her family then so she turned her back on it.
Erzia’s true love (even in her previous life) was the mercenary (that is hired now as her spy/bodyguard). Marquis got him killed and lied on circumstances to blame the sis and. They ended up as Viscunts and allies to the Duchy against the Crown Prince. Erzia was manipulated and assaulted by the Marquis, like her sister, they were also underage when he preyed on both. Laurencia DOES block him by unknowingly reuniting her with her soulmate who heals her heart.
This is the story of a flawed family that is finally communicating and looking for forgiveness for ALL their actions. Like Laurencia pushed Erzia from the stairs as a child. She’s no innocent. They are both trying to navigate the scars. I look forward to when they cry on each others’ arms. They truly and honestly love each other, but their misunderstandings and silences had those forces manipulating both to turn them agaist each other.
