Tbf, It’s already in human nature to seek a safe route when they’re in a vulnerable state.
Think carefully, he’s not in good shape and potentially dying from his disease while also dealing with both of the emperor’s nonsense and his duty as family head. As results, his mind already occupied with lots of things and couldn’t thinking properly.
So, in this case, I don’t rly blame him tbh. Both of them are in a tough spot.
But if you guys want to blame smth, blame the author who made him this way.
He/she rly did them both dirty.

I feel incredibly bad for her. A child always looks for their parent’s kindness and love no matter how cruel the parent is. And in this case, the father is a dumbass who doesn’t understand that once recognized as a threat then u r always a threat no matter how long you play the role of a dead mouse. after all no threat is better than a potential threat, so ofc the emperor will kill u both.
