Your logic makes sense but the author’s doesn’t because it looks like she’s just making extra work for herself. Unless there’s something that makes him immortal then she could hold a pillow on his face when no one is around and then just say he died in his coma. Bringing someone else in and hoping they do the job right without betraying you is crazy in this situation.
