Yes she is fixated about the book but I think the author and the artist are showing us how she is growing and healing with the help of others. She can’t just magically fix her resolve now, can she? Specially if she knows she will need to die eventually.
I think besides romance, overcoming her traumas and pain are a big part of this story.
