In my opinion this is a long story about depression. So far we have seen multiple signs of depression. Nyx may be a super natural entity feeding of her depression and or actually possessing her, but at the end of the day it is a story about neglect and depression. Two possibilities are likely:
1. She has been depressed since her mother’s death and her father’s neglect, and the trauma of the carriage accident tipped her over the edge. Recent events have snapped her out of it due to recognizing the novel events
2. She has been depressed and Nyx possessed her throughout the ten years by ejecting her soul temporarily and is no feeding off those emotions to try and possess her again.

Perhaps you are retarded or have dementia, her body literally possessed by the real “villainess” only recently she comes to this body again not to boot due to rumors and the real “villainess” past behavior she literally surrounded by evil energy as “nyx” said *sigh* this why reading comprehension is important.
