Not a novel person but what I can fathom by reading between the lines is that the Princess believes someone (likely the Duke) killed Jonas and her sister in order to make his son by Sonia (our ML) his heir. Whether that’s true or not remains to be seen, but the idea is that he married the Jonas’ mother in order to get to her maid, Sonia, and that he intended to have a child (Jonas) then send his mother back via divorce. Sonia, who adored the Princess, would stay behind to look after Jonas on his mothers’ behalf and thus be ripe for seduction and eventual marriage.
HOWEVER! We know that Sonia loved the princess, so she wouldn’t want her child to usurp the Dukedom from Jonas’ son, thus the Duke wouldn’t want that either. Also, we know that the Duke cared greatly about the train contract (enough that it’s speculated he Wished for it to go through), so he wouldn’t likely try to mess that up by divorcing the Princess and voiding the contract marriage.
Also, I think Judith is the descendent of the missing sister of the previous king. That’s where she got her eyes from and it may be something Luca found out about later after the novel finished and may have been a reason for him to go back in time… for whatever reason. Not sure about that yet, it’s just an inkling.

Novel people explain this.

a thought theory ive had. perhaps MC,s grandma, who she inhereted her eyes from, is in fact the princess. perhaps faking her death, to elope or or something. im probably wrong but it would explain how she is resembles the princess so much, that the princess old friends give her special treatment.

I saw someone say that in the novel, it was indeed the duke of Winterwald who killed Jonas. But because Jonas was planning to assassinate Sophia for some reason, and that enraged the duke. So, to protect his wife, he killed Jonas. And Jonas was not his son, but of Vanessa’s with some other man.
