@PlatonumHairPrincess I get your opinion but you have to understand the situation surronding the country.
First the military and local lord are already understaff to deal with a threat coming from the towers, second the King is also supporting the main policy of letting the towers be, since before the MC coming along he was the puppet of the Old Duke Mage(the bastard that is trying to kill MC in this chapter), since his inferiority complex didn’t let him take advice from Lionel, his family or any of their supports(that ultimately want the best for the country) and Diana constantly exploting his mommy issues(MY GOD this guy is PATHETIC and you could argue that the only reason that he is disobeying the Duke is that he found the MC hot and wants to fuck her 🤦♂️)
So given these situations you are probably asking “Why didn’t they revolt against these bozos?” The answer the goddamn towers. They let magic be used(that is also why Adelaine didn’t blow the emperor up at the first chance she got) and just from these last to fights(this expedition here and the tower appearance on the castle) we know just how vast is the difference in power between a Mage and a regular knight, to the point that one mage is equal or superior to a whole battalion of knights. So not only is the Old Duke the most powerful Mage in the Empire, he is also in complete control of the organization responsible for managing mages and the towers are already place in basically all states that oppose him. So if they revolt not only would they be denying the Royal family’s “rightful” claim to the throne, the process would be very bloody, with the potential loses of mages and knights being fully existential for the Empire in their tower filled state.
That is why this Viscount guy think that the Empress would be the piece that break this frozen board, not only she has the leadership skills necessary to rule a country, the wisdom to play the political games of the nobility, the charisma to attract other people to her, she is also a better Mage than the Duke. So she could safely take the mages that are unhappy with the Duke’s decision(because there is danger that of Lionel or the other tried to approach the mages for a revolution they would warn the Duke about it).
So this is basically the gist of the situation.

Surely the people know by now that the emperor, head magician and vice magician have no intention of destroying the towers because none have been destroyed until the empress arrived!
The people should have come to the conclusion that, they’re either incompetent or doing it on purpose.
