It is normal for an emperor to take another wife or concubine for status quo and loyalty of the opposing factions. They seem to be married for political reason but the emperor face doesn’t say so.

I hope i hopppeeeee the story won’t take the usual typical cliche in the later chapters: that the emperor was actually in love with the Empress but didn’t know how to express it blah blah. I hope the empress will stay as the empress but has a better and openly affectionate relationship with her son BUT keeps the stupid emperor in his place. Justice for our beautiful empress and NOTHING for the idiot emperor.
