Fun fact: when guillotines were in use, they had to reset it multiple times before it actually decapitated the subject due to the blade being dull.
Fun fact # 2: after decapitation the head was held up, not to show the crowd but because the subject was still alive for a few minutes after the head being removed. It was done as a form of sadistic torture as the subject would be experience the horror of the fact that their head was no longer attached.
