Okay, so the story has taken a real left turn from the novel. They changed a lot of things that I feel diminish the story. Spoilers.
First, some odd things they changed: Frey never hit Ferloche in the original story. Instead he forced her to heal her hands which had become sore after cleaning for so long before making her continue cleaning. He partially did this in revenge for her killing him and I think this was the first time he committed a true “evil” deed and was not rewarded points in the novel. Him hitting her goes against his character and doesn’t really make sense. Also, he (up until the point I have read in the novel) has not found out Kania entered his subconscious or knows more than what he told her. This ruins some future interactions between the two honestly.
Next, some context. Frey is often forced to drink to maintain his act as a prodigal son. He has a high tolerance to alcohol, and often drinks entire bottles of wine before feeling anything. He is haunted by the things he has done and this often causes him to have nightmares of his past life. After the incident where Dark mana and Stellar mana collided in Kania’s stomach, they decide to start the life force infusion somewhere else. However, it has to be a vital area near her heart. Thinking this meant he would go in from the front, Kania steels herself only to have Frey suggest infusing life force through her back. This leaves her feeling… disappointed?
The memory manipulation with Ferloche did happen in the novel, although I don’t remember the final scene with her being tied to a post and being stabbed. Not sure what’s going on here.
