Context time! Once again spoilers below.
In the novel, he does not meet his ancestor to learn these things. He reads it in a book that is written in Hangul (Korean alphabet) and was written by his ancestor, a transmigrated Korean from the modern world which experienced the world through a game. His ancestor leaves behind strategies to beat the game, all of which have major consequences like different character deaths. Frey chooses the hidden path as it’s the only path where he can save everyone. To do so he has to first destroy the world and then through the system do good deeds and disguise them as evil deeds. In the novel the system is called the “false evil system.” He was not made aware of the heroines keeping their memories.
