After reading the novel (I’m not here to give spoilers) I can honestly tell you that the writer is an amateur. Those cracks you see are because she hasn’t refined her craft.
I know in most markets romance is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to quality of writing. The Korean market is no exception. In my opinion, this writer is mid (maybe even lower) if we were to group all romance writers. There are writers of romance that are able to incorporate other genres into their writing seamlessly. The writer of Remarried Empress is able to portray a rather nuanced and complex political landscape setting for her romance. The writer of Death Is the Only Ending For the Villainess is able to show the complex human emotions associated with survival, which is pretty close to what a thriller would be.
There is something about this writer I can tell just lacks world experience. Don’t count on this story being something grand. It’s a mid story written by a newbie.
That other commenter (Tristan Liana or whatever) pointed out how there are two sides to every war but only one side was portrayed here and it was portrayed as something righteous and we the reader shouldn’t question it. Well, that gives an indication of the thought that when into writing this story. Minimal.
This story doesn’t asks hard questions. If you’re looking for a well written story, look elsewhere.
I don’t really care much for this story anymore. I just like the art. It’s a shame such pretty art is being used on this mediocre novel.

@Auragongal actually, the novel has been finished. I just read it until after this chapter though, bcs *spoiler* FL wants to help OGFL to get closer to ML. I just can’t 🥲not after the ML fall in love with FL

Hey, Evalle, it’s only 14 chapters in. We don’t now everything just yet, and maybe the cracks being shown is well, part of the overall plot.
I’m interpreting Bianca’s efforts to help the MC as not only a way to survive, but maybe find a way to actually change the story towards a brighter path for everyone. However, there might also be someone or something trying to ensure her death that well, Bianca doesn’t know about yet.
As for Tuberculosis instead of Consumpton… that’s most likely on the people working on the translation.
Anywho, I say give the story more time. After all, we don’t know everything, and Bianca may know even less than we do… and that’s perfectly fine. A Character’s Knowledge in-universe usually outranks what we the readers know when it comes to well, the story itself.

I don’t like where this story is going now. MC is going out of her way to help this person who, according to that book, is always going to hurt MC in some way. I know that ultimately MC is doing this for her own survival but this story seems kind of…messy. I don’t know what it is but it seems kind of unstructured and the kind of story that was just written on the fly, which isn’t inherently a bad thing. But it is here because it’s just showing the cracks in the story. This isn’t a well thought out story and it shows. The only thing holding up this story is the artwork.
Also why use “tuberculosis”? They should have used the term “consumption” to fit with the setting.
