But really she did carelessly say she’d be a family to him but:
1. She needed to say it so he will cooperate, he was a ticking bomb before he found his father.
He didn’t believe that someone loves him.
2. She needed to say it because she thought that when her family found out she’s a lizard, she will be hated.
She thought she will be abandoned and since Richard’s father offered to adopt her she accepted not knowing that her father is actively looking for her.

But still, she knew she won’t be with him, why tell him they are family and then just suddenly left him. That was a mean thing to do, and even she knows how it feels to have no family and be abandoned.
