Because if you had, you might actually understand that the end goal isn’t necessarily keeping your audience’s attention for a set number of pages.
Sometimes, it’s about delivering the information you need to convey in an increment that makes sense.
In this case, this ‘short’ chapter is pretty impactful, and it needs to *be* short to hit right.
The Empress has just shown some fairly big cards to a probable spy. The ball is now in Aisha’s court. What’s going to happen when the white geranium facade entirely shatters?
All-in-all, the delivery here is not inelegant.
You better believe that this passed through a couple editors, if they didn’t in fact already specify what they wanted the artist to deliver this week. This was a novel originally and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re following the structure of the novel for their pacing.
