   Ok, let’s summarize.
   The Duke was told to marry the late dutchess by the brother of said dutchess, however, that was just a plan to gain power because the duchess didn’t like the duke at all and was unhappy.
   When Zachary was born, that just made the dutchess unhappier, I assume the Duke spected that his wife would warm up with a kid but Zachary had problems with his powers and hurt his mother, making the duchess feel even more miserable, then she made the painting we saw, not long after that, Zachary’s powers went out of control and he killed his mother.
   The Duke definitely is obsessed with his wife and I assume was also delusional thinking he could have her love, but after her death that was obviously not going to happen and decided to hate his son for taking away “the love of his life” I guess.
   And then we saw the rest.
   But BTW this is all theory not spoilers.
