Every muscle works the same way: so if the muscle isn’t relaxed enough/ is new to friction, of course, in theory, there will be discomfort. Your “it’s not supposed to hurt” could happen if enough lubricant is there to reduce friction, and when the muscle is relaxed enough only, no matter first time or not.
