This is a very well executed twist. Each of the characters had good reasons for thinking the way they did other than a contrived misunderstanding, none of them had the complete picture, and they were able to use what the others didn’t know to create a dramatic moment. The dynamics are now complete different with one bold stroke. Looking back, there’s even some solid foreshadowing that isn’t obvious without foreknowledge.
Good all around, the author should be commended.

It was clearly hinted the sister has secret relationship with her secretary which why she knows about the boat deal with the duke, and it’s clear now that viola is using the duke so no one will approach her unless they’re of higher standing lol. Also it’s seems like she feed up with this tho which why she run away with the secretary.
