I ran the numbers after seeing Eruki’s result when he finished the speed gun test
He got a total of 548 scores and stood at level 24, which 1 score = 1 target hit, and the rules clearly stated that even hitting every target with a remainder of 1 will not let you advance to the next level. At the start of the level, you have 10 targets to hit, and advancing to the next level, the number of targets subsequently adds by 1
With this given information, I wanted to confirm if Eruki is really standing on level 24 with 548 scores
the number of targets at level n follows this formula: T_n = 10 + (n – 1) which simplifies to T_n = 9 + n
We can name Sn as the total number of targets shot, a = 10 (first level’s target count), d = 1 (difference between levels), n = the number of levels reached. With these given variables, we can write the formula: S_n = n/2 * (2a + (n – 1)d)
With this formula written, I can find the level where Eruki shot the total targets of 548 by substituting like this:
n/2 * (2(10) + (n – 1)(1) = 548
n/2 * (20 + n – 1) = 548
n/2 * (n + 19) = 548
n * (n + 19) = 1096
n^2 + 19n – 1096 = 0
now if you’ve learned anything in school, this is now a quadratic equation which can easily help us solve the value of n which we will finally determine the level. I usually use the longer version of calculating quadratics since it’s more accurate, but I will just use the quadratic formula because I also want to read the manhwa
n^2 + 19n – 1096 = 0
n = -19 +- sqrt(19^2 – 4(1)(-1096)) / 2(1)
n = -19 +- sqrt(361 + 4384) / 2
n = -19 +- sqrt(4745) / 2 sqrt(4745) ≈ 68.9
n = -19 +- 68.9 / 2
n = 49.9 / 2 = ≈ 24.95
because n must be an INTEGER, we round down to n = 24
so all that’s left is to actually verify it now. I will check the sum up to level 24
substituting 24 into the formula
S_24 = 24/2 * (10 + 33) = 12 / 43 = 516
same goes for 25 for good measure
S_25 = 25/2 * (10 + 34) = 12.5 x 44 = 550
Since 548 is between 516 and 550, ergo Eruki is indeed in level 24
just as somebody who likes math on a lot of occasions, this small correct detail that the author has put out is so erotic
