The memories, when altered, work to deceive both the protagonist and the viewer. The thing is, in this case, Marianne’s mother must have gone to the Emperor so confident that her daughter resembled the Emperor, but he never accepted her. By this point, it’s obvious that one of Marianne’s wishes was to enter the castle, and in this way, she kept making more and more wishes. Realizing that even changing appearances, creating rumors, and making the brothers hate Alyssa didn’t work, she faked being poisoned as a last resort and thus finally got rid of Alyssa to become the only Saint and the most beloved princess. Guys it does make sense, go back and look at past chapters, Alyssa has blue eyes normally but gold when she’s connected wi the Luminas channeling his power. And gold eyes are the evil princess’s true eye color but hers often turn red due to corruption with the evil spirit bc of its power! All the context is there just go back!
