@Boonahcuelars I know you won’t see this reply but I want to share my opinions regardless 😁 I think erotica paintings were seen as bad because those paintings were sold and distributed publicly, which means people can still see them even if they don’t mean to.. like accidentally “Oh, goodness gracious what did I just saw?! My eyes are cursed!” (Like that lmao) as for brothels.. people can just walk past the building without seeing what’s happening inside. That’s why in that Joseon period of time, brothel is way better because everything happens in “private”

Cuz brothels were for men exclusively and this erotica paintings are more for a women audience (?
Besides, women from brothels are by any mean treated with the same respect as other women in society, like they can recognize one or maybe two that could gather enough power but that is not the rule
