Re: Enig’s comment – Laura doesn’t want to be taken away. Whether it’s because of her past trauma, her personal convictions, or a combination of both, she does not want to be married or in a romantic relationship. At this point, she doesn’t even have a crush on the ML. She felt a kinship with him initially and now maybe guilt, but I don’t think she has any romantic inklings. Not real ones anyway. And the ML knows this. He learned the hard way. So now he’s trying to gently ease into a repaired and better relationship to convince her or let her develop affection naturally because she’s so strongly opposed to it. She does not want to be rescued. I think because the weight of cultural and social expectations are so different from the story’s historical standpoint and our own as modern readers that we cannot truly understand Laura convictions or her POV. I’m curious to see how and when she’ll develop feelings for the ML, but I suspect things will get worse before they get better. I’m even wondering if they’ll end up in a contract marriage first 🤔 Which would be a surprise (I didn’t think this one would go this way), but that is a plausible scenario for the ML to help her without scaring her off again. Because she is very much scared of the ML, romance, relationships, and marriage (for herself). Do not be mistaken about this.

I think the grandmother is going to give all her inheritance to Laura which will cause the uncle to get violent—im really scared for Laura because she’s such a strong character and I don’t want to see her get hurt😭
It’s so painfully obvious that the uncle and his son came to the Pendleton House for the money, house and all the assests within. Meeting the grandmother is just an attendance check they need to perform so that they end up looking good in front of both London society and the American Lady😤
Also……….WHERE IS THE ML?!?!?!?!?! That friend of his gave him bad advice!!!! TAKE HER AWAY FROM THESE TOXIC PEOPLE!!!!
Also, I really hope the American lady takes Laura’s side when she finds out that Mr.Price (that creep) is making FL uncomfortable!! Laura needs more friends!
