I understand the sentiments towards the ML. But the novel was beautifully translated showing the struggles, thoughts, and emotions of these two, esp. that of Heiner. It wasn’t rushed—allowing the characters especially the READERS to heal. It’s not leaning towards validating abuse rather allowing each character to navigate and address the layers of trauma, betrayal, and losses in their lives while trying to survive and win a war… while also healing. I’m not saying you need to understand Heiner, we know he’s a red flag. His is someone devoid of love, affection, and warmth since his childhood days. His is only familiar with violence, death, and blood until he met Annette. Imagine someone like that irl. Again, not justifying his actions, rather admiring both the author and translator in capturing the complexities and conflicts of life and love. I love the novel sm.

@Phoenix gold dude I’m not sure if the novel or a better translation is any better. I agree with @Higanbana, idk a lot of classic novels, but this reminds me of a sh*ttier reverse version of the Great Gatsby. Like wind on a Dry Branch is better if you want a long story with a sad pale blonde FL and a dark-haired ML who is way better than this dude. Unless Heiner gets hit by a f*cking truck and gets his soul swapped with brown hair guy I ain’t buying it.

I’ll start by saying: I read the novel on Patreon and gahdam, it was awesome.
The ups and downs, were a bit annoying at first but when he finally realized what he felt for her… Geez, words can’t describe this book I swear.

I think it’s sick that these Korean women are romanticizing such a toxic relationship. This story would be better if she stopped being around this jerk and started a new life alone or with another guy in another country. This would actually be a cure for her and a better purpose than pursuing a career as a military nurse knowing that her ex is the commander of the army she is working in! This is such a plot convenience to force the two to see each other frequently that it’s an insult to the reader’s intelligence!
I was hoping that would change, but it looks like this retarded woman is going to end up with this asshole and “live happily ever after”. Enough! I’m not going to waste my time with this anymore.
